How search and categories work
Two simple systems decide what a visitor sees when they're looking for a business like yours.
Search
When someone searches, we match their keywords against your business name, category, and description. The more complete and specific your listing, the more searches it can match.
Categories
Every listing lives in one primary category, which is how most visitors browse. Picking the most accurate, specific category — not just the broadest one — gets you in front of the right audience.
What makes a listing rank higher?
Within the same category, a few things consistently separate listings that get noticed from ones that don't.
- Featured placement. Growth and Pro plans place your listing above standard results in your category.
- A complete profile. Listings with hours, photos, and a full description are shown as more relevant than bare-minimum ones.
- Customer reviews. Listings with reviews tend to earn more clicks once they appear in results.
